All about Bacon and Recipes using Bacon

Bacon What would breakfast be with eggs and no bacon. Bacon and eggs has long been a favorite breakfast dish for western society.

So what exactly is bacon and where does it com from? Bacon is the types of cuts of meat from the belly, back, or sides of a pig. Bacon can be cured or smoked and can be eaten fried, baked, or grilled.

Streaky bacon, bacon is made from pork belly, is often used as a topping in the US, on items such as pizza, salads, sandwiches, hamburgers, baked potatoes, hot dogs, and soups.

Bacon bits are chopped pieces of cooked bacon that can be sprinkled over foods including salads. Imitation bacon bits consist of vegetable protein flavoured to resemble bacon.

The skin found on bacon is called bacon rind and unsliced bacon is called a slab. In the UK, Australia, and New Zealand bacon is made from the meat on the back of the pig, and a slice of bacon is often called a rash or rasher. However in the USA, where bacon comes from the belly of a pig, it is referred to as a strip or slice. Back bacon in the US is called Canadian style bacon or simply Canadian bacon.

"USDA Certified" bacon means that the bacon has been treated for trichinella which is a type of roundworm found in livestock. It is also called "pork worm" due to it sometimes being found in pork products that are undercooked.
