Chinese Pork Recipes
In China pork is the most popular choice of meat. The Chinese have perfected the art of cooking with pork, with well known dishes such as sweet and sour pork, chop suey, stir frys and deep fried pork dishes that include Cantonese, Szechuan, Mu Shu Pork from Beijing, and many other famous recipes. Chinese cuisine has become widespread in many other parts of the world.
Szechuan cuisine - Also Szechwan cuisine, or Sichuan cuisine is a style of Chinese cuisine originating in Sichuan Province of southwestern China which has an international reputation for being hot because of the common ingredient Sichuan peppercorn or fagara. Szechuan cuisine often contains food preserved through pickling, salting, drying and smoking, and is generally spicy.
Moo shu pork - A dish of northern Chinese origin originally from Shandong. In its traditional Chinese version, moo shu pork consists of sliced or shredded pork chop meat and scrambled eggs, stir fried in sesame and/or peanut oil together with thinly sliced wood ear mushrooms (black fungus) and day lily buds. Thinly sliced bamboo shoots may also be used. The dish is seasoned with minced ginger and garlic, scallions, soy sauce, and rice cooking wine.
Cha Shao - A kind of spiced Cantonese honey roast pork often called by the Cantonese Char Siu or Char Siew. Usually in America it is called Chinese BBQ Pork. It is very popular, and can be eaten by itself (usually cold), or as an ingredient for other dishes such as Cha Shao Bao (steamed pork buns), or in noodles or rice.
Cha siu baau - Cantonese barbecue pork buns. The buns are filled with barbecue-flavoured char siu pork. They are served as a type of dim sum during yum cha and are sometimes sold in Chinese bakeries.
In traditional Chinese culture cold beverages are believed to be harmful to digestion of hot food so items like ice cold water or soft drinks are traditionally not served at meal-time. Besides soup, if any other beverages are served, they would most likely be hot tea or hot water.
