Hummus recipe that can be served at room temperature with pita bread, grilled pork, lamb, or chicken.
What is Hummus? - Hummus (can also be spelled hamos, houmous, hommos, hommus, hummos, hummous or humus) is a dip or spread usually made from cooked, mashed chickpeas, blended with tahini, lemon juice, salt and garlic. Hummus is a popular food in various local forms throughout the Middle Eastern world. Hummus is high in iron and vitamin C. The chickpeas make it a good source of protein and dietary fiber.
Ingredients:
15.0 ounces can chick peas
1/4 cup tahini paste
3 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
1 clove garlic
1/4 teaspoon ground cumin
salt and pepper.
Directions:
Drain beans but reserve the water.
In a food processor or blender add beans and all the ingredients. Process until smooth.
If mixture is too thick add some of the reserved liquid from the beans to dilute to a desired consistency.
Serve at room temperature with pita bread, grilled pork, lamb or chicken.
