How to Smoke Pork and Smoked Pork Recipes

Smoked ham What is smoked pork? - Smoked pork is various cuts of pork, such as hams, pork chops and bacon that have been cured with smoldering, aromatic wood. The smoke from the burning wood gives the pork a distinctive smoky flavor and scent.

The difference between ham and pork - Basically pork is any meat from a pig and ham is a part of the pig, ham is to pork as steak is to beef. Ham is pork from the hind leg of the hog. Meat from the front leg is called "pork shoulder picnic." Hams can be either cured, smoked, fresh or cooked. Generally speaking ham is a name for any smoked pork product. It is also a name of a pork cut of meat.

Ham can also be the thigh and rump of any animal that is slaughtered for meat, but the term is usually restricted to a cut of pork, the haunch of a pig or boar. Although it can be cooked and served fresh, most ham is cured in some fashion including smoking.

Smoking pork in a commercial or homemade smoker by using different species of wood gives the meat a wide range of flavors depending on the type of wood, or mix of wood, used in the smoker.

Ways to Cook Ham
